Enough.

In the fall of 2008, I went to an Obama rally and picked up an Obama 2008 bumper sticker. Now, I am not a bumper sticker kind of girl. I don’t have a single one back there. I decided, however, that it was time to stand up for what I believed in. Since I’m not crazy, though, I made the conscious decision to put the sticker on the side of my car, on the window, and not on the back bumper. You see, I live in a very red state with people who don’t take kindly to other people’s librul idears. I figured that it’s better to be driving next to someone who didn’t like Obama than in front of them.

In Nashville yesterday, my fears came true for a man and his 10-year-old daughter. Mark Duren was driving home after picking up his daughter from school when someone noticed his sticker and proceeded to run him off the road. Luckily, Mr. Duren and his daughter were unharmed, but this incident could have ended tragically. Not surprisingly, alcohol is a factor in this case, but that certainly doesn’t excuse the despicable behavior of this obviously unstable person.

You could write this off as some drunkard who can’t hold his liquor, but I see a pattern developing here. People are getting the impression that it’s okay to carry out acts of violence because they are standing up for what they believe in. Our elected officials are yelling into bullhorns to Take back our country! and Stand up for freedom! and Patriots, reload! GOP officials and other conservative supporters are asking people to commit hate crimes against their fellow Americans. They are inciting domestic terrorism.

The president should call out those that are causing people to act out their anger in violent ways and demand that they stop. Criminal charges should be brought against anyone who cause others, either through written or spoken words, to commit crimes and/or act violently. We are not in the middle of a civil war, and people need to stop acting like they are. Enough.

I’ve Been Bobbleheaded!

When my friend Linda called me from Washington D.C. recently while on a trip, she asked me what I wanted to her to bring back for me. For some crazy reason, what shot out of my mouth was, “An Obama bobblehead!” She wasn’t sure she could locate one, but she did!

The first thing my husband said was, “Why does he look like he’s saluting Hitler?” Good point. Does anyone think this was done intentionally, or are we just a wee bit sensitive?

The Tundra Drums is reporting that some federal stimulus money will be making its way to rural Alaskan villages to help replace honey buckets with flush toilets. In this day and age, no one should be using a honey bucket. When I lived in the village, I had a honey bucket for the first 4 1/2 years. Finally, in the last year of my time there, a flush toilet was installed in my house. We had a huge water tank in the bathroom that also ran to the kitchen so that we could have running water to wash our hands and cook with. It emptied into a bucket under the sink which we had to haul outside to dump, but hey, we weren’t complaining.

Using the honey bucket was gross enough, but having to empty it was worse. No one wanted to be the one to empty it, and once it got too full, well, you had a problem. Hauling a practically overflowing bucket of human waste on a sled in the middle of a blizzard down to the local “lagoon” was probably the worst part of living in the village. I cringe just thinking about it.

So, if nothing else good comes out of the stimulus package (and I know it will), at least there will be fewer people that have to make that weekly trip to the lagoon. Thank you, President Obama.

First, the good stuff:

And then the embarrassing stuff (for her, at least):

“An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.” Read the full article at Mudflats for more.

Oh, Sarah. Notsomuch a fiscal conservative, now are we?

Well, I’ll be YouTubed!

Here’s what I did Saturday:

If you look very closely, you can see me at the very top of the blue arc.

Nah, just kidding. You can’t see me at all. I promise, though, I was there!

I admit that I haven’t given this site my full attention lately. I can explain, I really can. You see, I’ve been chosen as one of the lucky few to be a moderator over at the Mudflats Forum. I now get to have a behind-the-scenes look at the forum and all it’s inner-workings. I love the other mods and admins over there, and I hold them all in high esteem. I am fortunate to be allowed behind the curtain, so to speak, into the inner sanctum. Please, join us at the forum. It is what you make of it, and personally, I’m having a blast. You are all welcome to come and enjoy the ongoing discussion.

In other news, this morning I spent an hour and a half in 25 degree weather (my hands are still numb from the cold- kind of makes it hard to type) at an Alaska for Obama event. This time, we were instructed to come wearing black pants and ready to make a larger-than-life Obama sign out of human bodies. Good thing I happened to wear my blue down jacket, because soon after I arrived at the Park Strip, I realized that I must have missed part of the email. There were a suspicious number of people wearing red. Especially for an Obama event.

So we split up into three sections: those wearing red, those wearing white, and those wearing blue. We stood around for awhile while the organizers did whatever it is that organizers do. Finally we got into formation. We started with the American flag, and then moved into the Obama sign. It was fun but very cold. I should’ve worn my hat, and my heavier gloves.

Here are the pictures I took at the event. I had heard that the pictures and/or video will be posted over at the Obama site, but I don’t know when or if that will happen. If I hear anything, I’ll post it here or over at the Alaskan Lodge in the Forum.

Oh, and I guess there were about 1,000 people there. Yippee!

Alaska Obama Rally Photos

The following pictures were taken by me on Saturday, October 4th at the Delaney Park Strip in Anchorage, Alaska. I surmise there were probably around 1,500 people there, but reports are in at 1,200.
