The rally this afternoon was fun, to be sure. I showed up at about 12:10 pm, and it looked like there were already a couple hundred people there, standing along the sidewalk, waving signs and cheering. Cars were honking quite regularly, which of course, whipped up the crowd even more. I personally only saw two cars pass by that gave the “thumbs down,” but no one was rude, there was no shouting or confrontations. In fact, I did not see a single person from the opposing side.

I walked around and took pictures for a bit, and then let S. cruise around on the grass. The speakers began and we all gathered ’round. CC from KUDO whipped us all up first and got us all n the rallying mood. Several more speakers took the stage and then Shannyn Moore. Man, she is one hilarious Alaskan. Check out her site at http://www.shannynmoore.wordpress.com.

More speakers took their turn but my back was killing me (that’s whart carryting a 24-lb toddler on your back will do), so I decided to leave. I made my way to the back of the crowd and called to be picked up by Husband Extraordinaire. As I was waiting for my ride, Walt Monegan’s mom, Betty took the stage and explained how hard it had been to watch her son go through such a painful thrashing by SWWNBN and Co. There weren’t many dry eyes in the crowd, methinks.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I think there were around 1,000 people there, but we’ll have to wait and see what kinds of “official” counts are posted. Oh, and I wore my Mudflats boots, but only saw one other person wearing theirs. I didn’t get a chance to talk to her, however, since I spotted her during the speeches and by the time I looked around again, she was gone. AKM perhaps?
