Welcome to Mamadance! This blog was first created in the summer of 2008, when my daughter was just a year old. I started this blog because of her- I wanted to share her with friends and family and honor mothers everywhere who survive their children one day at a time. That’s why it’s called Mamadance and not SarahPalinSucksEggs.com.
On August 29th, 2008, my life changed forever. Sarah Palin was picked to be John McCain’s running mate. I felt sick. Something inside me was happening and it wasn’t until later that I realized that it was a turning point in my life. I began to write about how I felt about Sarah Palin. You see, I’m an Alaskan, and even though she is no longer running for Vice President, I still have to deal with her, almost every day. I don’t work in state government, but I am no longer asleep when it comes to what is happening politically. I am paying attention. So no matter what, I guess I have her to thank for that.
I began reading Mudflats in September, like a million other people around the world. I became a member of the Mudflats Forum, and shortly thereafter was asked to be a moderator. Now the moderating team and fantastic Admins are now some of my closest friends. It has been quite a whirlwind since September, but I wouldn’t change a minute of it. I am who I am today because of Mudflats, and now, instead of using this blog to share my little girl with the world, I am using it to share my thoughts, especially when it comes to Alaska and Alaskan politics. I hope you will enjoy the ride as much as I have.
Amazingly, even the ugly is beautiful and inspiring. I can’t get enough of this role!
Hi! I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for your comments today on The Jason Show. It always makes me feel good when somebody takes the time to read that whole big long thing I call My Story and then share their thoughts about it.
I’ve enjoyed reading your profile and I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading your posts!
Thanks again.
Maybe she doesn’t feel a need to name you yet because she still feels such a part of you. Why name something that you can always depend on to be with you and to love you?
Beautiful baby. Just gorgeous.
Hey, Chick!
I was trying to track you down and finally with the help of another Mudflatian, I found you! do you mind if I use the photo you took of the great Jeep Pike sign? I was going to try to use it as my avatar on the forum in Mudflats. Also, do you happen to know who the person is that made the sign? Thanks a bunch! And also thank you to all you great Alaskans for standing up!
Just PM me on the forum. I’ll try to find you too!
I didn’t see the tabs at the top of your blog! So I’m finally reading this page of yours.
Your little girl is so adorable!
Thanks to everyone for commenting on this page. I’ll try to update with a few new photos here and there. Babygirl is 15 months old now and walking. Scary and exciting all at the same time!
Oh yes. The delightful first word saga. My K’s first word was “dog.” She’s 20 years old today and I’ve never let her forget it. *smirk* I’m enjoying your Palin columns. Alaskans are good folk!
Don’t feel too bad about not hearing “mum” just yet. My little baby-man was 9 months old when he started saying “dad” and wasn’t until he was nearly 19 months before he started saying “mom”. Little bum would just smirk. (he’ll be 2 in 1 1/2 weeks)
He loves practicing his looks in the mirror. Pouty face, sweet face, mad face. Crying face is the funniest to watch. Gets his little fists under his eyes, puts on his best pout and makes little whimper noises. What a little trip!
You are in for a world of amazing things. Enjoy every moment because before you know it, she’s in kindergarten, high school, graduating, then out in the world on her own. I know because my first 3 are in their 20s now.
Still really enjoying this site dear friend. Tis the next best thing to being there to enjoy it all in person.
We’re looking for a way to contact you and let you know your blog has been nominated for a Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Award!
You can see your nomination (and vote!) here: http://www.nicksparentspicks.com
Congratulations!
I am not an Alaskan, but I stumbled on your blog through the singing hockey mom. I’ve read through your blog, and several others, and I have to say that it is refreshing, and heartening, to see that lots of Alaskans do not dig Sarah Palin. Now that the election is over, I can mention her name without my blood pressure shooting up 143 points… but i am getting off topic, dang it.
Being a bit of a wacky hippie form California, I am a believer that people are brought to the mass consciousness for a reason. After reading so many of these blogs where people had epiphanies after she became involved in the race, maybe that is/was her purpose? To motivate people out of their apathy, and get them involved?
Just a thought…
